Mobile Phone Study: Shows low rate of backing up personal data — despite the known risks

Opportunity for mobile service providers to score with value-add offerings

Independent research surveying 1,000 mobile phone users in Germany revealed that only 14 percent regularly backup the content of their cell phones, although almost half (45 percent) have lost their mobile phone at some point. This is the result of a recent study on mobile phone data security commissioned by Cellebrite, the leading provider of cell phone synchronization and management systems. Perhaps this can be explained by the fact that two thirds of those interviewed were not even aware that back up services are available from certain service providers and retail outlets. All this pointing to the significant market potential for providers and their retail channels to offer additional services, increase customer loyalty and create new revenue sources.

Cellebrite’s UME-36 (Universal Memory Exchanger) allows subscribers to upload their favourite applications at the point of sale at the press of a button

 Cellebrite, the leading provider of mobile phone synchronisation and management systems, has announced the latest upgrade to its UME-36 system, which allows carriers to distribute their applications right from their POS. The UME-36’s newest feature provides carriers with the ability to install their applications at the point of sale without leaving it to the user to download them from their portal at a later date.  This approach is designed to increase the adoption rate of mobile apps by making installation immediate, simple and seamless.
